Frequently asked

What happens to my file when I convert it?

Your file is sent over an encrypted TLS connection to our secure conversion server. It is converted immediately and then permanently deleted — within 60 seconds, whether the conversion succeeds or fails. We never store, share, or analyse your file contents. The only data we log is: file size, conversion result (success or failure), and timestamp. No file names, no content, no metadata beyond size.

Why did Microsoft Publisher stop working in October 2026?

Microsoft retired Publisher from Microsoft 365 on October 1, 2026. Subscribers lost the ability to open or edit .pub files in Publisher after that date. Microsoft did not provide an alternative way to open .pub files — their suggested workarounds require a working Publisher installation, which M365 subscribers no longer have. OpenAny uses an open-source library (libmspub) to read .pub files directly, without requiring Publisher.

What happens if my file doesn't convert perfectly?

We show you an honest fidelity report after every conversion. If images are missing or formatting has shifted, we tell you exactly what happened and offer alternative outputs — such as extracted images and text — so you can still access your content. We never hide conversion problems behind a clean-looking but inaccurate PDF.

What is a winmail.dat file?

winmail.dat files are created by Microsoft Outlook when it sends email in Rich Text Format to recipients using non-Outlook email clients (Gmail, Apple Mail, Thunderbird). The real attachments are hidden inside the winmail.dat file. OpenAny extracts the actual files so you can open them normally.

Is there a file size limit?

Free users can convert files up to 50 MB each, with a limit of 3 files per session. Batch Pass ($9 one-time) raises this to 500 MB per file with unlimited conversions for 24 hours. Pro subscribers get up to 1 GB per file with no session limits.

Can I convert files in bulk?

Yes. With a Batch Pass or Pro plan you can drop an entire folder of files and convert them all at once, then download the results as a single ZIP file. Free users can convert 3 files per session.
